Peter Vahlefeld
Germany, Berlin
In Peter Vahlefeld and his work, it can be clearly seen how the decisive person in painting brutally recaptures the original meaning of his activity, which through the art market and medialization always threatens to shift into the role of the specific object. He uses art marketing products such as advertising flyers or posters from auction houses or museums as a foundation on which to build his works. On this basis, the image is created layer by layer through the use of different colors and materials. It is not just paint pigments that give Vahlefeld's works their specific colorfulness, tonality and structure, but also a number of other materials such as photo fragments or textiles. In the end, a number of properties can be ascribed to the images, which are mainly characterized by their contrasts between analog and digital painting, the compatibility of different color materials as well as parts of construction and destruction: surprising, exciting, colorful, dynamic, jagged or haptic. There is only one thing they are not: flat.
