Insula Maior (Mallorca)
80x80cm
‘Insula Maior’ (Mallorca), Manu Verneuil, Hamburg 2024, 80x80cm, acrylic/mixed media on canvas, colour scheme: gold on dark red, framed with shadow gap in gold look 🟢
The large-format exhibit is part of a series of characteristic depictions modelled on islands or specific landscapes.
On the one hand, it stands out due to its high-contrast colour scheme; golden yellow and red, the Spanish national colours, which were deliberately chosen, and on the other hand due to its strong structural surface, which is based on the topography of the island of Mallorca. This could give the impression that the 90 km long Tramuntana mountain range has actually been captured on canvas and that the lowlands on the beaches are also recognisable.
Motivation and genesis; The idea for this series originated in the depiction of the island of Sylt and its realisation is based on comparable series. Using acrylic, marble dust and sand, and often a bicolour colour scheme in gold or silver, strongly structured and haptically striking and unique.
Many people associate Mallorca, the largest island in the Balearic Islands, with a place of longing for various reasons. Some live there and some enjoy their holidays. Whatever the reason may be, it is reflected in this exhibit.
