“Path to Brooklyn” Emmanuel „Manu“ Verneuil

120x120cm

„Path to Brooklyn”, Manu Verneuil, Hamburg/Germany 2023, 120x120cm (47.25 inch/square), acrylic, mixedmedia, color scheme red/silver with subject in silver on canvas 🟢

A figurative interpretation and execution of the “Brooklyn Bridge”, which has a special radiance and structure, luminous, haunting and expressive.

One of the symbols that stand for New York and characterize the uniqueness of this city. In these times, the whole world is looking at America. In this respect, this interpretation of the Brooklyn Bridge also stands for the traditionally good America.

It is a special tribute to the land of democracy, which is so fragile in these times, but such symbols also outlast governments. That is a good thing and gives hope.

The Brooklyn Bridge was built from 1869 to 1883 and finally opened in May 1883. At the time, it was the longest steel suspension bridge in the world. For a long time, the Brooklyn Bridge was even the only connection between Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Fun fact: Rumors about the bridge’s stability arose after it opened. There was speculation that it would collapse. To prove otherwise, circus man P.T. Barnum had 21 elephants walk across the bridge a year later. It did not collapse.
